Getting After It In The Morning

Good morning.🙂

I’ve been taking Emily Lark’s advice to heart. 

During our most recent Copy Accelerator Virtual event, Emily talked about how she spends the first 2-3 hours of each morning getting after her biggest needle mover. This means she’s diving into that work before she gets on Facebook, checks her email, etc.

The way Emily explained it, she used to tell herself that she was getting settled into her day…

But what she realized is that she was just giving herself an excuse to procrastinate and put stuff off. 

That message resonated with a lot of attendees at the event…

And it also resonated with me, a lot. 😳

What's funny is that I’d gotten the same advice from Monique Linder, who used to be my coach, two years ago…

But I never really followed it until this week.

Prior to now…

I would indeed schedule a time for my “deep work” each day…

But it was usually for pockets of time between 8 am and 11 am…

Which, is overall effective…

But it does leave a stretch of about 3 hours between when I wake up (about 5 am) and when I actually dive into work.

One week though, I decided to follow the advice of Emily and Monique. 

Why?

I looked at my calendar and saw that I had one of my busiest weeks in a LONG time…

And I really wanted to finish the sales letter I was working on.

So one morning I got up at 5:30 am…

And worked on the letter right up until 8 am, when I had my first call.

Turns out, I got a TON of the letter done in that window of time…

And doing that had me feeling so much calmer, happier, and accomplished for the rest of the day.

Then, in the afternoon I knocked out another hour of work, and finished my first draft…

So at that point, I felt REALLY good…

And when I stopped working there was no anxiety and stress…

Instead, I just had a great evening playing outside with my daughter.

Because of how well yesterday went, I figured I should probably do the same thing again…

So that’s what I did.

I woke up at about 5:15 am…

Spent the first hour and forty-five-minutes proofreading and editing the sales letter…

Sent it to my client…

Went on a 40-minute walk around my neighborhood…

And got back in front of my computer at 8 am for my first call.

I feel great, and I'm so happy to have the project completed…

And because some things ended up being moved around on my schedule…

I actually have a really open day in front of me now.

So instead of needing to work on that letter…

I’m going to spend an hour or so providing feedback to Copy Accelerator Members in our FB group…

Then I’ll be doing some deep work on my own personal projects…

And at 2:30 pm I’m gonna go hit the golf course, which I’m super stoked about…

Before going out to a nice dinner with my wife and her cousin this evening.

So yeah, just wanted to share…

Because at least for me…

Switching it up and diving right into my biggest needle mover FIRST thing in the morning…

It’s making a big difference and giving me the feeling of having a lot more time in my days…

So pretty damn excited about that.
