A Little Monday Motivation…

copywriting

Good morning 🙂

I am writing this from my home in Las Vegas.

I was debating between going to my office today (it’s closed, but as the owner I obviously have access) or staying home…

But I think staying home is going to win out.

I don’t really have a topic to write about today…

So instead, let me just give you a little motivation as you go through your day:

There are a ton of businesses, and freelancers, that are thriving right now.

I think that's important to understand because a lot of the news is Doom and Gloom. And with good reason. I saw a recent estimate that unemployment is projected to jump from 3% to upwards of 30% due to COVID-19. That would be unprecedented (peak unemployment during the Great Depression was 24.9%).

If you’re on my list, though, you're probably either a freelancer or a business owner. This means you've got a lot more protection from unemployment and economic uncertainty than most people do.

The key, for some of you at least, is to pivot.

Justin and I have talked to numerous eComm business owners over the last few weeks who are hiring like crazy. In fact, this Thursday I've got a call with a guy who is looking to hire several new copywriters for a variety of projects… and we've shared several new writing gigs for our Copy Accelerator writers in the past few days as well.

This isn't a plug for Copy Accelerator, though…

Moreso, I'm sharing to illustrate that if you're a freelancer who is struggling to find work right now, or who is worried about losing a retainer client, it may be time to pivot. Because there is a TON of opportunity for you at this moment – you just need to hustle and find it.

And if you’re in eComm and you’ve seen sales struggle, it’s the same thing. You may just need to pivot here…

Or change up an offer.

The good news is that those changes don’t even need to take a ton of time.

For example, with the weight loss offer, I'm doing with Cody Bramlett…

I wrote a new pre-header that called out the frustration of being stuck at home, unable to go to the gym, stress-eating, and worried about putting on weight.

We kept the main headline the same…

Yet just making that little tweak increased conversions significantly for one of our Facebook partners…

To the point where he was able to start reaching a lot more scale…

In total, I changed about 30 words.

So, the point is, don't fall into the trap of “times are bad right now, so I'm screwed.”

Remember the blog post I wrote a while back…

About response-ability.

That’s the blessing you have in front of you right now.

You get to choose how you respond to this.

If you own a restaurant, then yeah, you’re in a lot of trouble…

But if you’re on my list, chances are you’re one of the luckiest people on the planet right now…

Because you have the ability to pivot rapidly…

And continue to thrive even during scary times like these.

Okay, that's it for now.

On my end – I’ve got an intake form I need to fill out for the PR Company I hired (Chris Winfield and Jen Gottlieb’s team)…

Then I’ll be doing some road-mapping for the genetic testing startup I’m working with (as we launch I’ll be hiring multiple Copy Accelerator writers to assist with various projects here)…

And on top of that, I've got a few more calls this afternoon…

Plus, I’m also going to carve out some time to read.
